How to get from O'Hare to CAISBy AutomobileExit the airport on I-190 to Chicago. Take the River Road (South) exit and follow it to North Avenue. River Road spits into 1st or 5th Ave - either will get you to North Ave. Head east on North Avenue (take a left) to Harlem Ave. Turn south (Right) on Harlem to Division. Turn west (right) on Division. Campus is one block west on Bonnie Brae, to the south of Division. Street parking available on Division or guest lots. By Taxi/LimoTaxi cabs from O'Hare to CAIS are subject to a 50% surcharge, as River Forest is not adjacent to Chicago (and the cabs at O'Hare are city cabs). Taxi cabs to the Carleton or Write Inn are normal rates, as Oak Park is adjacent to Chicago. Normal fares are between $18 - $25, depending on traffic and train crossings. Call Blue Cab (708/383-2121) when collecting your bags and a suburban cab will be able to pick you up at O'Hare and drop you off in River Forest with no surcharge. Call American Limo (630/920-8888 or 800/762-6888) in advance to schedule a limousine, which may be cheaper for large groups. By Public TransportationGo to the CTA station underneath the baggage claim area. Take the Congress Blue Line. This will go into downtown (the Loop) and back out, following the Eisenhower expressway (I-290). You have two options to get North to Lake Street. One is to transfer to the Lake Street - Green Line while downtown at the Clark/Lake station - the Green line is elevated here - so go up the steps. The other is to take the Congress Blue line out to Harlem or Oak Park, exit there, and take a Bus north to either campus or Pleasant (for the Carleton). Fares are $1.50 per person. See the CTA Web Pages for additional information, maps, and schedules. |
