Directions from Eppley Airport in Omaha to Concordia, Seward. 402-643-7321 Computing Services Office (Marcile) Easy directions: From the airport navigate to I-80 West. After an hour get off on Hwy 34 west just to the north of Lincoln. A half hour later you will get to Seward. Turn right on Columbia as you enter town. The University is about 7 blocks north.
More complete directions: 1. Either ask the car rental people how to get to I-80 going west or The airport parking area exits onto Abbott Drive (you will be facing west, Abbott Drive runs north-south past the west side of the airport). Turn right (to the north) on Abbott Drive. In 0.5 miles bear to the left onto the Storz Expressway heading west. Watch the signs. This isn't much of an "Expressway". Head west on the Storz Expressway for 2.5 miles, stay to the left and take the exit onto Hwy 75 south (there will be signs indicating this is the route to I-480). You will be moving onto another divided highway. Head south on Hwy 75 for 2.5 miles until it intersects with I-480. Follow the signs to I-480 south (generally stay to the right but be careful). Continue south on I-480 for 2.1 miles until it intersects with I-80. Stay to the right and transit to I-80 west (basically a right turn). 2. Watch yourself the next 6.7 miles since Omaha has been doing construction on this stretch of I-80 for as along as anyone can remember. At the end of the 6.7 miles stay to the left as I-80 intersects with I-680; you want to just stay on I-80 heading west (but it will curve around to the south for a while. Stay on I-80 for 44 miles until you are north of Lincoln. Note the speed limit is 75 mph once you are outside of Omaha but it drops to 65 mph as you near Lincoln. At times I-80 is heavily patrolled so observe the limits. Watch for the Hwy 34 exit which is the same as the interchange with I-180 (which heads south into Lincoln). Some people think this exit comes up suddenly after coming over a little hill with a gentle right bend of I-80. Take the Hwy 34 west exit (which will initially head north for a bit before turning west). Stay on Hwy 34 (which is divided for about 4 miles, until you pass the Kawasaki plant) for 21 miles until you reach Seward. The speed limit is 60 mph and Hwy 34 is patrolled. This 21 miles of highway is classic Nebraska scenery. Note that as you go up and down the hills that this is part of the terminal moraine for one of the ice ages. To the west of Seward the land is quite flat; it was south of the edge of the ice field. 3. As you enter Seward Hwy 34 turns to the right and then to the left as it drops to cross a small river, Plum Creek. As you climb back up into town you want to turn right at the first street, Columbia Avenue. On your right will be the "District Office of the Lutheran Church - Missour Synod" (the local office of the LCMS). Turn right and head north for about 0.5 miles and Concordia will be on your right. or If you want a better sense of Seward (population 5000) just go 0.4 miles further west until you pass the courthouse, turn right (just past the movie theater) onto Hwy 15 north (6th street), go 0.6 miles then turn right onto Hillcrest Drive (just before a church) and head back east for 0.4 miles. You will be at the corner of Columbia and Hillcrest mentioned above (just past our church on the right). Either continue straight ahead to the parking lot mentioned below or turn right onto Columbia going south to head for the administration building.
4. You might either park somewhere in the "half moon drive" in front of Weller Hall (the administration building with the tower). Poke your head in any office and ask them to call me and I'll come over. or Continue past the University, past the church and school on the left to Hillcrest Drive. Turn right (to the east) and go just a couple of blocks and pull into the first parking lot on the right. The two story building ahead of you, to the south, is the Science Building. My office is on the upper floor, north-west corner. |
